Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 22, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how HomeHistory handles your personal information. We try to keep it in plain English — if anything is unclear, please reach out.
1.Who we are
HomeHistory is a property record-keeping platform operated by Home History Technologies Inc. ("HomeHistory", "we", "us"), a Canadian company. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect when you use HomeHistory, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
If you have questions about this policy or your personal information, contact us at hello@homehistory.ca.
2.What we collect and why
We only collect information we need to run the service you've asked us to provide.
- Account information — your name, email address, password (stored hashed), and the account type you sign up as (Homeowner, Agent, Trade, or Tenant).
- Property information — addresses, property details, and photos you add for each property you track.
- Uploaded documents and images — receipts, warranties, insurance certificates, leases, inspection reports, property deeds, appliance photos, and similar records you choose to store.
- Financial data you enter — job costs, expenses, rent records, and related figures used to generate your own reports.
- Payment information — if you subscribe to a paid plan, billing details are collected and stored by Stripe (see below). We do not store your full card number on our servers.
- Usage data — basic technical information such as browser type, device, IP address, and pages viewed, used to keep the service secure and reliable.
We use this information to operate the service, keep your data secure, communicate with you about your account, and improve HomeHistory over time.
3.AI receipt and document scanning
When you use the "Scan receipt" or similar autofill features, the image or document you upload is sent to a third-party AI vision service (currently Google's Gemini model, accessed through the Lovable AI Gateway) so it can extract structured data such as vendor, date, and amount.
The AI provider processes the file only to return that extracted data to HomeHistory. We do not use uploaded images to train AI models. You can always choose "Manual entry" instead if you prefer not to have a document processed this way.
4.Third-party services we use
HomeHistory relies on a small set of trusted service providers to run the platform. We only share the information each provider needs to do its job.
- Supabase — hosts our database, authentication, and file storage. Your account data and uploaded files are stored on Supabase infrastructure.
- Stripe — processes subscription payments. Card details are handled directly by Stripe under their own privacy terms.
- Resend — delivers transactional email (account confirmations, invites, reminders, service requests) from our
homehistory.cadomain. - Google Maps Platform — powers address autocomplete and Street View hero photos. Address text you type into the address field is sent to Google to return suggestions.
- Google Gemini (via Lovable AI Gateway) — extracts text from receipts, invoices, and ownership-proof documents when you use those features.
- Cloudflare — hosts the HomeHistory website and edge functions.
We do not sell your personal information to anyone.
5.What connected accounts can see
HomeHistory lets different account types connect to each other — for example, a Landlord can invite a Tenant, a Homeowner can invite a Trade to complete a job, and an Agent can stay connected with past Clients. When these connections exist, some information is intentionally shared between the accounts, and some is intentionally kept private.
- Landlord ↔ Tenant. A Tenant can see records the Landlord shares with them for their unit (such as lease documents, inspection reports, and maintenance request history). A Tenant cannot see the Landlord's expenses, other tenants, rent roll for other units, or any other property.
- Homeowner ↔ Trade. A Trade invited to a specific job can see that job's scope, address, and job-related messages. A Trade cannot see other jobs, warranties, financial data, or documents unrelated to the job they were invited to.
- Agent ↔ Client. An Agent can see limited property overview data for a Client they've been connected to (basic property details and the shareable Home History Report). An Agent cannot see the Client's expenses, uploaded documents, or private notes.
These boundaries are enforced by access controls in our database. You can disconnect an account at any time from the relevant settings page.
6.How long we keep your data
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. If you cancel your subscription or delete your account, we retain your data for up to 90 days after cancellation to allow you to reactivate without losing your history. After that period, your personal data and uploaded files are deleted from our production systems.
Backups containing residual copies are rotated on a normal schedule and are also purged over time. We may retain minimal records (such as billing history) where required by law.
7.Your rights (PIPEDA)
Under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Request deletion of your personal information, subject to legal or contractual limits.
- Withdraw consent to certain uses of your information (this may affect what parts of the service you can use).
- Make a complaint to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@homehistory.ca. We'll respond within 30 days.
9.Security
We use industry-standard measures — encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), encrypted storage at rest, hashed passwords, row-level access controls in the database, and least-privilege service credentials — to protect your information. No online service can guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your data as if it were our own.
10.We don't verify property ownership
HomeHistory allows you to upload a proof-of-ownership document when creating a property, but we do not act as a title registry and are not responsible for confirming who legally owns a property. Buyers, sellers, and their representatives should complete their own title and ownership due diligence. See our Terms of Service for more.
11.Children's privacy
HomeHistory is not directed at, and is not intended for use by, anyone under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
12.Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you by email or through the app before the changes take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the current version.
